Keep It Simple

Welcome to Eco Spa! Your Hot Tub Maintenance Guide

Below is a guide that I used to get perfect water with the least amount of chemicals, money, and effort. Everyone is different so amounts may vary:

Hot Tub Maintenance: What Your Hot Tub Can't Clean or Kill

  1. Oil and Sweat: Use Enzyme Sticks - They come 4 per pack. You only need to put one of the larger pieces that rattle in with your filter. Replace every 3-6 months. Suggestion on where to purchase below.

  2. Physical Hair and Skin: Use Oxidizer (Non-Chlorine Oxidizing Shock). Suggestion on where to purchase below.

  3. You: The most important thing you can do to keep your hot tub clean and keep chemicals out is to shower before using your tub.

Maintenance Routine

  1. Before First Use: Making sure your water is properly balanced before your first use will save you time and headaches. Follow this guide to start off on the right foot: https://www.ecospasalberta.com/post/crucial-steps-to-achieve-perfect-water-balance-before-using-your-hot-tub

  2. Oxidizing: Add 2 tablespoons of Oxidizer every 2 weeks after you get out of the tub.

  3. Chlorine: The first week, add 1-2 tablespoons of chlorine/bromine granules. If your test strips show low chlorine, that's great! If your water is clear, that's what we're looking for.

  4. Turn all jets on high and close the lid. The jets will stop after 20 minutes.

  5. Adjust until you find that 2-4 tablespoons per month is generally sufficient.

  6. Check pH Levels: Even if the water is clear, hot water can affect your PH. Check your levels, but 1-2 tablespoons of pH Up or down once or twice a month is fairly standard.

Ozone Cleaning System

  • Operation Schedule: Set your ozone cleaning system to run twice daily for two hours per cycle (e.g., at 12 PM and 12 AM, or other times when the spa is not in use). Instructions can be found on page 17.
